Rules and terminology

The Sudoku game is usually a 9 x 9 grid made up of 3 x 3 sub-grids that are called regions.

Some of the cells in the grid already contain numbers.  These numbers are known as givens.

The goal of the game is to fill in all the squares so that each row, each column and each region contain all the digits from 1 to 9.
